Official rules · 2026-08-trader-v1
No purchase or paid subscription is required. One entry is allowed per confirmed Indy account. Entry is free.
Each entrant manages one simulated $50,000 cash account using only the organizer-controlled eligible stock universe. Trading is long-only. Short sales, leverage, margin, options, deposits, withdrawals, transfers, and live brokerage activity are prohibited. Cash may remain uninvested. A position may not exceed 25% of the portfolio's official value when a buy executes.
Entrants submit simulated market orders. Buy orders specify USD notional and sell orders specify share quantity. Every order locks before its eligible session and executes only at the first available FMP split-adjusted official closing price on or after its eligible date. Orders submitted before the competition may first execute on August 03, 2026; later orders cannot execute on the same market date they were submitted. An order with insufficient cash, shares, or position-limit capacity is rejected rather than partially filled. Every filled buy and sell incurs a simulated 10-basis-point fee.
The competition runs from August 03, 2026 through August 31, 2026. End-of-day portfolio value equals simulated cash plus each open position's shares multiplied by its latest captured official close. A missing later close carries forward the most recently captured official close. Dividends, taxes, interest, market impact, slippage beyond the official close, and non-split corporate-action cash flows are excluded.
The highest final portfolio return wins. Ties are resolved by lower daily maximum drawdown, then earlier entry submission time, then entry ID. Orders, executions, cash movements, official prices, and daily results are auditable. Finalization requires the official benchmark close on August 31, 2026.
Prizes are fulfilled manually outside Stripe after identity, age, residence, eligibility, and compliance review. No prize is guaranteed where prohibited, and winners are responsible for applicable taxes. This is a simulated skill competition, not brokerage activity or investment advice. Indy may disqualify duplicate, automated, manipulated, or otherwise abusive entries and may delay finalization for data-quality review.
